The Constable family has owned it for over 400 years.
The house retains its historic collections, shaped significantly by an 18th-century owner's keen collecting of curiosities and botanical specimens.
The estate sits within 300 acres of parkland designed by Capability Brown and is now managed by the Burton Constable Foundation, a registered charity open to visitors.

The hall's core dates from the Elizabethan period, with substantial 18th- and 19th-century remodelling of the interiors carried out under successive generations of the Constable family. William Constable, an 18th-century owner, assembled a notable cabinet of curiosities and a herbarium that shaped much of the collection still held at the house. Ownership passed in more recent times to the Burton Constable Foundation, which now cares for the estate as a charitable trust.
