About this place

Colby Woodland Garden lies about three quarters of a mile north of Amroth in Pembrokeshire.

The National Trust manages this woodland garden, which occupies a valley worked for coal during the late 1700s.

A walled garden within the trees offers a more formal space that contrasts with the wilder woodland planting.

Visitors can walk paths thick with bluebells in spring and observe traces of the site's industrial heritage within the landscape.

History

The valley was worked for coal during the late 1700s, and traces of that industrial activity remain within the woodland today. The garden is listed on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales, recognising its landscape value. The National Trust took on the site's care, transforming a former industrial valley into a planted woodland garden open to visitors.

Gardens & grounds

The walled garden within the woodland is a highlight, offering a more formal contrast to the wilder planting along the valley paths.
