About this place
William Adam designed Duff House in 1735, producing one of the grandest Baroque country houses in Scotland.
The house stands on the edge of Banff in Aberdeenshire and operates as a country house gallery run through a three-way partnership between Historic Environment Scotland, the National Galleries of Scotland, and Aberdeenshire Council.
Its collection includes paintings by El Greco and Raeburn, displayed in period rooms that reflect the scale of the original commission.
The relationship between Adam and his patron, William Duff, collapsed into a bitter legal dispute before the building was even finished.
