About this place
Dunrobin Castle stands on the east coast of Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands, making it the most northerly of Scotland's great houses.
The seat of the Earls and Dukes of Sutherland, it has been in the same family for over seven centuries.
Its current fairytale silhouette owes much to an 1845 remodelling by Sir Charles Barry, the architect behind the Houses of Parliament.
Parts of the original tower date to the early 1300s, making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited houses in Scotland.
