Euston Hall

History

The hall was built for Henry Bennet, Lord Arlington, a senior minister to Charles II, incorporating the core of an earlier house on the site. It passed to the Fitzroy family, Dukes of Grafton, and has remained in their ownership since. Substantial rebuilding work was carried out in the early twentieth century.

Architecture

A red-brick Palladian manor with seventeenth-century origins, later remodelled in the Palladian style. Elements of the original layout, including remnants of a stable courtyard, survive from the estate's earlier phases.

Worth knowing

The house displays a collection of Stuart-era art, alongside a bygones room, an historic watermill and the Church of St Genevieve within the grounds.

Gardens & grounds

The park contains Kent's Temple Folly and a watermill on the River Blackbourne, set within grounds developed successively by John Evelyn, William Kent and Capability Brown.
