Sir Richard Hutton, a judge in the reign of James I, built the Hall after buying the Goldsborough estate in 1598, and it remained a private residence for generations afterwards. Princess Mary moved in following her 1922 marriage to Viscount Lascelles, using it as her first married home before the family later moved to Harewood House. The current owners have restored the Hall in recent decades, returning it to use as a private house and now a working hotel.
Architecture
The Hall is a Jacobean house dating from the early 17th century, with later alterations, and retains historic interiors including a Jacobean library.
