About this place
Christopher Lloyd gardened at Great Dixter for over fifty years, and the planting philosophy he developed there influenced gardeners across Britain and beyond.
The house and garden sit near Northiam in East Sussex, the garden surrounding a timber-framed medieval hall that dates to the fifteenth century.
Great Dixter is particularly known for its Long Border and for the meadow planting that Lloyd championed long before wildflower gardening became fashionable.
The garden is managed by the Great Dixter Charitable Trust and remains a working horticultural school as well as a visitor garden.
