The house dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, with the earliest parts constructed around 1540 by the Tyringham family.
William Orlebar of the neighbouring Hinwick House acquired it in 1834 and the building was extensively modified and extended during the 19th century.
Nearby Hinwick House was built between 1708 and 1714 for Richard Orlebar, making the two properties part of a broader Orlebar family connection to the area rather than a planned pair.
Hinwick Hall passed through several ownerships during the 20th century, including a period from 1943 when it was owned by the Shaftesbury Society and used as a residential school.
History
Hinwick Hall dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, with the earliest parts constructed around 1540 by the Tyringham family. William Orlebar, who owned the neighbouring Hinwick House, acquired Hinwick Hall in 1834 and the building was extensively modified and extended during the 19th century. The property was sold at the end of the 19th century and later came into the ownership of the Shaftesbury Society from 1943, when it was used as a residential school. It has passed through several ownerships during the 20th century.
