About Holme Pierrepont Hall
Holme Pierrepont Hall was built between about 1490 and 1500 by Sir William Pierrepont.
It is the earliest brick building in Nottinghamshire and stands in the village of Holme Pierrepont, just outside Nottingham, within parkland that was once the heart of a much larger estate.
The Medieval Lodgings remain largely unaltered, with original oak beams, brickwork and open fires.
The estate was sold in 1941 due to death duties, but descendants of the Pierrepont family through marriage continue to live there today.
Visitors can see family pictures and furniture linked to both the Pierrepont and Brackenbury families.

Sir William Pierrepont built the hall as a brick manor house in the last decade of the fifteenth century, a rare material choice for Nottinghamshire at the time. The estate was sold in 1941 due to death duties, though descendants of the Pierrepont family through marriage, the Brackenbury family, continue to live in the house today. The Courtyard Garden was laid out in 1875, showing the changing tastes of successive generations. Both families' possessions remain in the house.

The hall is Grade I listed and one of the few surviving brick-built houses of its period in Nottinghamshire, with Tudor structural features surviving alongside later additions such as the Victorian Courtyard Garden.

The Grade II listed Courtyard Garden, designed in 1875 with a miniature box parterre, is best viewed from the first floor. The East Garden, laid out in 1973, hosts a rare wild tulip, Tulipa sylvestris.
