Homme House

History

The house is Grade II* listed, a grading that reflects the ambition of its late 18th-century remodelling over the earlier Tudor building it replaced. Its summerhouse, standing separately in the grounds and dating from the 17th century, is listed at Grade I, the highest level of protection given to historic buildings in England.

Architecture

The main block is brick with stone dressings and a slate roof, three storeys high with a six-bay front. The entrance porch has two pairs of Tuscan columns beneath a pediment, and the surviving stone tower from the earlier 16th-century house is still attached to the later range.

Gardens & grounds

The house sits within an estate of gardens, 100 acres of parkland and 80 acres of woodland, with a Grade I listed 17th-century summerhouse among the grounds' features.
