History
Innes House was built around the 1640s for Sir Robert Innes, whose family had held lands in Moray for centuries and gave the parish and estate their name. The design has been attributed to William Aytoun, though records of the original build are incomplete. The Innes family later became recognised as chiefs of Clan Innes through the Innes baronets.
Architecture
The house is generally described as an early example of Scottish Renaissance domestic architecture, built in a restrained baronial style with crow-stepped gables and symmetrical proportions. Its design has been attributed to William Aytoun, though records of the original build are incomplete.
