Kiftsgate Court Gardens sits above the village of Mickleton in Gloucestershire, a few hundred yards from the National Trust's Hidcote Manor Garden.
The garden is the work of three generations of women gardeners, starting with Heather Muir in the 1920s.
Its best-known resident is the Kiftsgate rose, a rambling rose said to be one of the largest in Britain, which spreads across the lower garden.
History
Heather Muir began laying out the garden in the 1920s around Kiftsgate Court, a private house near Chipping Campden. Her daughter, Diany Binny, took over the planting from 1950, and the garden has since passed to Anne Chambers, Muir's granddaughter, and her husband, who continue to develop it. The house remains the Chambers family home rather than a museum property.
Worth knowing
The garden's Kiftsgate rose, Rosa filipes 'Kiftsgate', is said to be one of the largest roses growing in England, with stems reaching high into the surrounding trees.

The upper gardens near the house are arranged in colour-themed borders, while the sheltered lower slopes are planted to suggest a warmer, more Mediterranean climate, with a modern water garden added as a quieter contrast.
