About this place
The Pennington family have lived at Muncaster Castle, in Cumbria, for over 800 years.
The castle stands on the western edge of the Lake District, overlooking the River Esk, with views across the fells that have changed little since the medieval period.
A hawk and owl centre operates within the castle grounds, run by the castle itself.
Henry VI sheltered here after the Battle of Hexham in 1464, and in gratitude he gave the family a glass bowl that is still kept at Muncaster today.
