About this place
Built in the late seventeenth century, Newby Hall sits beside the River Ure in North Yorkshire.
Robert Adam remodelled the interiors in the 1760s and 1770s, and the work he carried out there ranks among the finest examples of his neoclassical style in private hands.
The Compton family have owned it for generations and still live there today.
The house also holds one of the most significant collections of Gobelins tapestries in Britain.
