About this place

Overtown House stands on the edge of the Marlborough Downs as the working centre of the Burderop Estate.

Since 1973, when the family sold Burderop Park, it has served as the estate's principal residence.

The house and gardens open to visitors on 28 days a year, a practice that began in 2014.

The surrounding estate encompasses some 1,800 acres of farmland and woodland, managed by the family that has owned it continuously for over four centuries.

History

The Burderop Estate has belonged to the Calley and Langton family since 1614, representing one of the region's longer continuous family holdings. Overtown House became the estate's principal residence after Burderop Park was sold in 1973. The nearby village of Hodson, with its thatched and Grade II listed stone cottages and barns, remains part of the same holding.

Architecture

Overtown House is a Grade II listed building.

Gardens & grounds

The gardens at Overtown House are opened to the public on a limited number of days each year, alongside the house itself.
