About this place
Samlesbury Hall is a medieval manor house in Lancashire, built in 1325 by Gilbert de Southworth, who acquired the estate through his marriage to Alice d'Ewyas.
The black-and-white timbered great hall survives largely intact, making it one of the better-preserved examples of medieval domestic architecture in the north of England.
In 1924 a building firm purchased the hall with the intention of demolishing it.
Money was raised by public subscription, and the Samlesbury Hall Trust took ownership in 1925 to secure its future.
The hall is open to the public and hosts regular antiques fairs on the grounds.
