Wallington Hall stands near Cambo in Northumberland, built in 1688 for Sir William Blackett on the site of an earlier pele tower.
Sir Walter Blackett remodelled the house in the 1740s.
The estate later passed to the Trevelyon family, who commissioned significant additions including a central hall with a glazed roof and decorated with paintings depicting Northumbrian history.
The National Trust has cared for the estate since 1942, when Sir Charles Trevelyon gave it away along with its contents and much of the surrounding land.
Visitors can walk through rooms still furnished as the Trevelyons left them and into a walled garden with terraces running down to a stream.

Sir William Blackett built the present house in 1688 on the site of an earlier pele tower, and his descendant Sir Walter Blackett remodelled it in the 1740s. The estate later passed to the Trevelyon family, and in the 1850s the newly glazed central courtyard was decorated with scenes from Northumbrian history. Sir Charles Trevelyon transferred the house, its collections and around 13,000 acres of land to the National Trust in 1942.
