About 59 Rodney Street, Liverpool
59 Rodney Street was the home and photographic studio of Edward Chambré Hardman, one of Liverpool's best-known portrait photographers.
The Georgian townhouse sits on a street long nicknamed the Harley Street of the North for its concentration of doctors' practices.
The National Trust has preserved the interiors largely as the Hardmans left them, with the shop, darkroom and living rooms kept as a working record of mid-twentieth-century life above a business.
It is a rare chance to see a Georgian house used exactly as it was for decades, rather than restored to an earlier period.

Edward Chambré Hardman and his wife Margaret lived and ran their photographic business from the house from the late 1940s until his death in 1988. The National Trust acquired the property and retained the furnishings, equipment and decor rather than redress the rooms to an earlier Georgian style. Rodney Street itself developed as a fashionable Georgian address and now forms part of a conservation area with Hope Street and Gambier Terrace.
