Its fifteenth-century square tower, carved and pinnacled, rises above the surrounding fields.

The church originated in the thirteenth century, though most of the building standing today reflects a major rebuilding in the fifteenth century. The Chambre chantry chapel, added in 1489, is considered one of the finest of its type in the county. The poet John Dryden was baptised here, at a time when his grandfather held the living of rector.
