Coton Manor Garden occupies ten acres of hillside near Guilsborough in Northamptonshire, sloping away from a 17th-century manor house built of local stone.

The garden is known for its deep, plant-rich borders and a nursery that propagates more than a thousand varieties taken directly from the beds.

History

Coton is a small hamlet in West Northamptonshire, now part of the parish of Ravensthorpe. The manor house that gives the garden its name stands at the top of the slope and was built of the pale local stone typical of the county's smaller manor houses.

Architecture

The manor house dates from the 17th century and is built from mellow Northamptonshire stone. It is not open as part of the visit; only the surrounding garden and grounds are accessible.

Gardens & grounds

Beyond the main borders lies a five-acre bluebell wood and a wildflower meadow, both included in a visit and best seen in spring.
