Frampton Court

History

The Clifford family has held the Frampton estate since the 11th century, making it one of the longest-standing single-family landholdings in England. The present house was built in the 18th century, and across the village green stands Manor Farm, the estate's earlier manor house. The house, Manor Farm, the barn and the orangery are all separately Grade I listed, while the gatepiers and gates carry Grade II* status.

Architecture

The main house combines Baroque massing with Palladian symmetry, typical of the early-to-mid 18th century in Gloucestershire. The orangery in the garden was built in the style of William Halfpenny, an architect and pattern-book author, and survives as a rare example of English Gothick garden architecture.

The grounds include an ornamental canal and Gothic orangery within a Grade I registered park stretching to around 50 acres of lakes.
