Sir Robert Smirke designed Hardwicke Court in 1816 for Thomas John Lloyd Baker near Gloucester.
The Late Georgian house, built of Cotswold stone, stands in its own parkland at Hardwicke, Gloucestershire, and is Grade II* listed.

The house was built in 1816 for Thomas John Lloyd Baker, a widower whose late wife was Mary Sharp. It replaced an earlier property on the site, which stood on ground once landscaped by the Trye family in the early 18th century, before the Lloyd Bakers took ownership. The house has held Grade II* listed status for its architectural importance.
Architecture
Hardwicke Court was designed by Sir Robert Smirke, who later designed the British Museum, in a restrained Late Georgian style using local Cotswold stone.
Worth knowing
A bust of the abolitionist Granville Sharp, uncle of Mary Sharp who married into the Lloyd Baker family, is displayed inside the house.
Gardens & grounds
A canal surviving from the Trye family's early 18th-century garden layout still runs through the grounds, predating the present house by a century.
