About this place

Houghton Hall in rural Norfolk was built in the 1720s for Sir Robert Walpole, widely regarded as Britain's first Prime Minister.

It ranks among the finest Palladian houses in England.

The interiors were designed largely by William Kent, whose state rooms survive in remarkable condition.

The hall has been in the Cholmondeley family since the eighteenth century.

Across the parkland, a significant collection of contemporary sculpture is displayed in the open air.
