About this place

Sandringham House in Norfolk has been a private royal residence since 1862, when the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, bought the estate.

The house was almost completely rebuilt in a series of works beginning in 1870 and continuing through to 1900.

It has passed through five monarchs since then and remains in royal ownership today.

The house opens to visitors for part of the year, giving a rare look inside a working royal home.

The estate now covers around 20,000 acres and includes a country park that is accessible year-round.
