About this place
Hutton-in-the-Forest has been in the same family line since 1605, when Richard Fletcher purchased the estate.
It passed to the Vane family through marriage, and the family is now known as the Fletcher-Vane family, latterly the Barons Inglewood.
The building grew across several centuries, with a medieval peel tower at its core and substantial additions made in the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries.
That layering of periods gives it a varied architectural character for a house of its size.
The grounds include a walled garden and woodland walks, and the house is open to visitors on selected days.
