History
Building work ran from 1742 to 1746, producing a house of over 36,700 square feet on the Kirtlington estate. The parkland was landscaped by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown from around the early 1750s onwards, one of the era's most sought-after designers, whose work shaped the long views towards the Chiltern Hills that survive today.
