About this place
Knebworth House in Hertfordshire has been held by the Lytton family since 1490, giving it one of the longer family ownership histories among English country houses.
The building is a Tudor Gothic mansion, its dramatic exterior added in the 1840s by the novelist Edward Bulwer-Lytton.
That transformation gave it the turrets and gargoyles that have made it recognisable far beyond the country house circuit.
Since 1974 it has also been known as a concert venue, having hosted some of the largest open-air rock events ever staged in Britain.
