About this place
Lyme Park in Cheshire passed through the Legh family's hands for nearly 600 years before they gave it to the National Trust in 1946.
The house sits within a large deer park on the edge of the Peak District, and its Italianate façade makes for a striking first impression.
Inside, the Mortlake tapestries are a particular draw, widely regarded as exceptional examples of their craft.
The BBC filmed parts of its 1995 Pride and Prejudice adaptation here, using the exterior and grounds as Pemberley; interior scenes were shot at Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire.
