About Titsey Place
Sir John Gresham built the first house at Titsey in the 16th century on the site of an older dwelling.
The house, near Oxted in Surrey, has been substantially rebuilt and altered since then, particularly during the 19th century.
The estate is one of the largest still intact in Surrey, with walled kitchen gardens, landscaped lakes and a herd of pedigree Sussex cattle grazing the parkland.
A charitable trust now cares for the house and gardens, and visits to the house are by guided tour only.

The Tudor house Gresham built was demolished and rebuilt in the 18th century, then underwent further substantial alterations during the 19th century. The estate later passed to the Leveson-Gower family, who held it for generations before it was placed in trust for the nation. Titsey remains one of the few large Surrey estates still run as a single working property rather than broken up and sold off.
Architecture of Titsey Place
The present house combines a Tudor core with significant 19th-century remodelling, including substantial alterations to the main elevation and additions to the structure.
Gardens & grounds at Titsey Place
The grounds include walled kitchen gardens still cultivated for produce, a rose garden planted to mark the Queen's Jubilee, and landscaped lakes set within the wider parkland.
